Later, Gnomie

There are a lot of logistics getting ready for our departure: Renting the house, packing, moving stuff into storage, the yard sale, re-homing our plants, getting our bikes and gear dialed… But we also needed to take care of one final, very important detail.

Our beer-drinking garden gnome needed a new home.

This guy has been a part of the family for years. Our clan has lovingly repainted him more times than we can count (the red was nice but this mermaid green is seriously magical), and he’s been through nearly every one of our moves. Sad but true—this is just one adventure he can’t join us on.

Yet even in the darkest of times there is light. Right off the Greenbelt in Garden City, you’ll find a happy band of gnomes. It’s the perfect spot for him to hang with other gnomies while we ramble for a year—and there’s vacancy. So we all took an afternoon ride to help move the little guy move in.

The gnome is wearing his seatbelt and there’s a picnic in the pannier.

He looks like he’ll fit right in and have plenty of friends. The question is, will he still be here when we get back? Fingers crossed. With a little luck, we’ll see you next year, Gnomie.
